MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — Multiple agencies combed the water Saturday evening for an elderly man who went missing earlier in the afternoon in Lake Wylie.
Authorities say the incident happened shortly before 4 p.m. Steel Creek volunteer firefighters said an elderly man was riding on a speed boat with his family when he fell into the water. Officials say he immediately disappeared.
Emergency crews are using Sonar equipment to search for the man. The area is near the Nine Eagles landing and the Buster Boyd sand bar. Officials say even in the water, Saturday's heat takes a toll on search crews, yet that is not slowing them down.
