CHARLOTTE--Members of the Carolina Regional Minority Partnership Coalition are upset with the DNC Committee.

"I think that they are good hearted and I think that they want to do right by minorities and by business owners and by the minority business community but sometimes I feel like they don't know how," said Colette Forrest, founding member of CRMPC.

The group wants more DNC contracts for minority-owned businesses.

"There are a lot of small revenue contracts that are under 50,000 or 100,000 and those are the type of contracts that would make a difference in this economy to a minority business," said Forrest.

Members say officials with the DNC are not disclosing which companies are getting contracts after making a commitment earlier this year to increase diversity business participation at the convention.

"We are excited about the next step in the process, an unprecedented process, to make sure that we have a diverse spend goal in place," said Steve Kerrigan, DNCC CEO.

The committee pledged to spend 1/3 of funding on diverse groups.

"We are well on our way to meeting our unprecedented goal of spending at least one third of our funding on contracts and projects with Minority Business Enterprises, Women Business Enterprises, Veteran-Owned Businesses, Disability-Owned Businesses and LGBT-Owned Businesses," said Travis Dredd, chief of staff for the DNCC.

"This policy is in addition to many practices the DNCC has put in place to encourage participation by diverse businesses, including a vendor directory, regional outreach and integrated efforts towards diverse spending.”

The CRMPC says it will discuss the relationship with the DNCC at its regularly scheduled meeting. That meeting is set for Monday, June 18 at 6 p.m. at the Excelsior.
