WILMINGTON – Gov. Bev Perdue toured the state port at Morehead City this week. It was her first visit to a North Carolina port as the governor.

Perdue said the ports are important to the state's global economy. While there, she looked at how crews handle natural rubber coming through the ports that are used at Goodyear plants.

Just last month, 14 million pounds of rubber came through the port.

Perdue says she recognizes the importance of the state's ports, both at home and worldwide.

“We have great hopes about agriculture,” she said. “”That is just one of the most hopeful pieces of North Carolina's port business. I've just come back from China, where we had meetings about buying North Carolina produce and food and meat.”

The governor says it's important to make contacts to ensure the ports in the state continue to see business.
